Breakfast With Spanky - Chris Timbs
November 05, 2009 02:04 PM PST
You like sausages? Well one man who is very good at making them is butcher Chris Timbs from Peter Timbs Butchery. Chris has just taken out the Supreme award at the Great New Zealand Sausage Competition for his extraordinary mango and chilli chicken banger. We had to find out more about his secret behind this success and just why chicken sausages aren’t that popular in our Kiwi culture. Breakfast With Spanky - Ben Howe
November 05, 2009 02:01 PM PST
Laneways Festival, which originated in the myriad of alleys in Melbourne has made its way over to our shores. Ben Howe is the man responsible for bringing it over here, so we had a chat with him about how you actually get heaps of people squished into a lane with no problems from OSH. And the rest: Breakfast With Spanky - Dr. Mike Hlavac
November 05, 2009 01:58 PM PST
We spoke to Dr. Mike Hlavac this morning about sleep apnoea which is something that we didn’t really know much about going into this interview. Dr. Mike was great, apparently some people have this thing with their throat and the flaps relax and you choke while you’re sleeping… or something. Dr. Mike has rapidly become our favourite expert on sleep so hopefully we’ll talk to him again soon. Breakfast With Spanky - Bart Window Cleaner
November 05, 2009 01:56 PM PST
Ever wondered what’s it like hanging off the side of a fuck off tall building, cleaning windows? Well our mate Bart does it all the time and laughs in the face of vertigo. We had a chat with the man this morning to see how things were going up there in the air, without a care… turns out he was still on the ground. Breakfast With Spanky - Prof. Steve Taylor
November 04, 2009 02:33 PM PST
We realised that we didn’t really know much about Parihaka to be honest, so thought it best to hear more about it from a professional. A professional professor by the name of Steve Taylor called in to shed some light on this event way back when. How will you be peacefully celebrating Parihaka? Give someone a feather! If that doesn’t make any sense to you, you need to listen to this podcast: Breakfast With Spanky - Sam Mahon
November 04, 2009 02:29 PM PST
Artist Sam Mahon has made a sculpture of MP Nick Smith out of cow manure, called ‘Nick Smith in the shit’. It’s actually very good, he’s a talented man is Sam, wonder what Nick thinks of it? Anyway the piece is up for auction on trademe (check out the link) and currently the bidding’s at around $3000 - not bad! Have a listen to why exactly Sam chose this material and hear him have a dig at art schools as well, it’s great stuff. Breakfast With Spanky - Inspector Derek Erasmus
November 02, 2009 01:35 PM PST
Have you seen the Christchurch Police riding round town on their flash new bikes? We had a chat with our ‘inside man’ at the ChCh police department, Inspector Derek Erasmus about who’s idea this was, does riding a bike actually help catch baddies and will the officers pull any cool stunts. Oh yeah we also get an update on how many people have been nabbed talking on their cells in cars since the law was instated. Check it out: Breakfast With Spanky - Garrick Cooper
November 02, 2009 01:31 PM PST
We tried and must stress tried to help clear up a bit of the Foreshore and Seabed Act which has come into light as National move to uproot the thing (excuse my layman’s terms). Garrik Cooper from the Maori Studies department at U.C. called in this morning to shed some light on the matter, it seems like this will be a drawn out process and I refuse to have an opinion - mostly because I don’t compeltely understand the thing. So have a listen to this podcast and see if you can make anything of it. Breakfast With Spanky - Mike Noon
November 02, 2009 01:26 PM PST
And finally on the show we caught up with our mate at the NZ Automobile Association, Mr Mike Noon. The AA think the police are missing the point with the whole cell phones banned in cars thing. I think we should all start riding motorbikes, to hell with the massive increase in ACC levies, we can ride free, without no one to talk to who can distract us, unable to answer the phone, it’ll be great! Breakfast With Spanky - Jimmy Backyard Brawler
November 01, 2009 02:37 PM PST
Hands up who’s seen Fight Club? Well one man who most probably has and loved it so much he started up a real live version in his own backyard with a bunch of mates. It’s called Backyard Brawlers and it’s going on in our very own city of Christchurch. Jimmy from Backyard Brawlers called in this morning for a how shall we say, ‘limited’ interview. How did all this start? Does the ref have any qualifications? Do they allow gays to partake in the action? Find out here: Breakfast With Spanky - Sam McSorley on burns
November 01, 2009 02:32 PM PST
Sam McSorley came into the studio as she does, this week to talk about burns. She also discussed why some colours suit some people better than others, but that’s by the by. Have a listen to the podcast to hear how you can treat all kinds of burns - sunburn, carpet, scolding, electrical and more - naturally. If you want to find out more on Sam or just ask her a question go to: www.sammcsorley.co.nz Breakfast With Spanky - Viv Wong bakes brownies
November 01, 2009 01:21 PM PST
Viv Wong is on a baking mission and we want to support her. She has entered a recipe in a competition called NZ’s Favourite Recipe - her renown chocolate brownies. Viv came into the studio today to tell us all about it, who her competition is and she brought in some brownie for us to taste! As it turns out, it’s freakin delicious!! Sorry about the video, my camera’s a piece of shit but at least you get to see the baking. Make sure you vote for Viv’s brownies too, go to the site to register Breakfast With Spanky - Amy Stewart - Wicked Plants
October 29, 2009 03:01 PM PDT
My guest today was Amy Stewart who has written a bloody interesting book called Wicked Plants. I was lucky enough to have a chat with her this morning, Amy called in all the way from over in the States where she has been researching dangerous, poisonous and violent plants for years. Have a listen to this insightful interview with this fearful mongering botanist. Ha! Just keep a close eye on your pets… Breakfast With Spanky - Mark Albiston
October 28, 2009 03:17 PM PDT
On the show today we finally got hold of Mark Albiston from Sticky Pictures who directed the award winning short film; The Six Dollar Fifty Man. The story is about a young boy who gets bullied at schoo, which is actually based on real events from Mark’s childhood. Have a listen. Breakfast With Spanky - Gina Dellabarca - Show Me The Shorts
October 28, 2009 03:11 PM PDT
It was a bit of a short film special this morning I guess, because we also had a chat with Gina Dellabarca who runs the Show Me The Shorts festival coming up very soon. How do they chose all the winners? What makes a short film a short film? Will short films be going more mainstream soon as we as viewers a constantly developing shorter attention spans?? Found out all this and more about the line up/categories here: Next Page |
