Breakfast With Spanky - Maria Van Der Meel
November 22, 2009 12:49 PM PST
I would have assumed if you were campaigning against something and wanted to stage a protest, the fact not many people show up with their placards and riling chants would suggest maybe there really isn’t a huge amount of support for your cause. For Maria Van Der Meel who is a Wellingtonian campaigning against bus lanes ripping up Manners Mall, this isn’t a problem. Maria has actually employed students to protest for her. Hopefully they’re dedicated, there’s nothing worse than seeing protestors who really aren’t committed when the eggs and flour bombs start to fly. Breakfast With Spanky - David Hayward
November 22, 2009 12:43 PM PST
There is a book called NZ Reserve Bank Annual which has recently been released on to store shelves around the country. The author, David Hayward joined us this morning to explain what it’s all about, don’t let the name fool you, there’s more in this book than you’d think. Allan Bollard didn’t think much of it, but hey you can’t please everyone. Apparently there’s about 200 - 250 books worth of info, how did David fit all that in? Find out here: Breakfast With Spanky - Bex Gilchrist on IEP
November 18, 2009 01:51 PM PST
A big thank you to Bex Gilchrist (how come her surname is pronounced Crist and not Christ?) who is the director of IEP a brilliant organisation that hooks our traveling minded youth up with some killer jobs overseas. Ever thought about house sitting some celebrity’s house in LA, or making cheese in the South of France? Well Bex might just be able to help you out. Have a look around their website and listen to this podcast. Breakfast With Spanky - Ralpth from Three Boys Brewery
November 18, 2009 01:48 PM PST
What better way to celebrate the fall of the Berlin wall than by talking about German beer! We spoke with our master brewer mate, Ralph from Three Boys Brewery here in Christchurch about what makes the Deutsch drop different from the rest and why they drink so damn much of it without getting all fucked up and making our drinking culture look like a sack of irresponsible shit. He’s a wise man in more ways than one is Ralph so I hope you get a lot out of this chat. Breakfast With Spanky - Maria Walls previews Bustin Down The Door
November 18, 2009 01:23 PM PST
Also in studio this morning was the ever lovely Maria Walls PREreviewing a flick showing soon on Sky’s Rialto Channel 25 called Bustin Down The Door. It sounds bloody good! Czech is out. Breakfast With Spanky - Estelle on home vege gardening
November 17, 2009 02:20 PM PST
And lastly on the show we spoke with Estelle who is one of the many people getting into home gardening. What we wanted to know is, are home grown veges really that much cheaper once you’ve accounted for all the hours of hard labour involved with actually growing the bastards compared to store bought? Regardless, it’s a very rewarding experience growing your own vegetables and it doesn’t just have to be radishes! Breakfast With Spanky - Alice Boyes on body image
November 17, 2009 02:16 PM PST
Also on the show this morning was Alice Boyes who is a psychologist (body image expert) speaking about women’s perception of themselves, their weight to be precise and how it effects their decision in a partner. We also cover what guys’ perceptions of heavy women are and whether it’s enough to deter them from pursuing regardless of the girl’s personality. It’s a funny game this love thing, hopefully this will clarify a few things… Breakfast With Spanky - Sam McSorley on natural skin care
November 17, 2009 02:13 PM PST
Sam McSorley came into the studio to give some very interesting advice on skin care. It’s not as easy as you think to look after your skin naturally, but Sam gives us some tips on how you can battle the signs of aging without resorting to synthetics. Listen to this: Breakfast With Spanky - Paul Trotman on human dissection
November 17, 2009 01:52 PM PST
What a great way to start the day - discussing the finer points of human dissection. Paul Trotman is a Dunedin doctor, columnist and film maker who has created a doco which focuses on allowing med students to cut up your body once you’ve kicked the bucket called Donated to Science. What happens after you’ve signed your carcass away? Do the students make fun of your body and take photos with you fashioned into silly poses? Turns out no, they don’t - but how do you get involved in the furthering of medical discoveries? Has anyone seen that German horror movie Anatomie? I would suggest strongly against watching that if you’re trying to make your mind up regarding having your body dissected in the name of science. Breakfast With Spanky - Tom Innes on simplifying life
November 16, 2009 01:31 PM PST
From the hubbub of noisy engineering plants and choatic labratories to the calming tranquility of a simple stress free day, we talk with Tom Innes who is involved with the Simplicity Group. Sounds a bit fruity? Well have a listen to what’s actually all about. We’re so wrapped in being or getting BUSY, like that’s a quantifier for a successful and meaningful life, when we meet on the street, we always seem to ask if you’ve been busy. Check it out and slow down… Breakfast With Spanky - Amy Whitehead on NZ's Blue Duck
November 16, 2009 01:29 PM PST
The Blue Duck is endangered New Zealand, it’s a very cute wee bird and Amy Whitehead (who has just finished her thesis! congratulations) is making it her mission in life to save the Whio from extinction. There are only about 2500 of them left and it’s high time we made an effort to preserve this indigenous quacker. Breakfast With Spanky - Dr. Allan McInnes on the Mars Rover
November 16, 2009 01:20 PM PST
Not many of us can wake up each morning knowing that part of us, the result of countless hours of blood and sweat is sitting somewhere on another planet. But one man, one stallion of electronics, a trojan of engineering, Dr. Allan McInnes can say just that. Dr. Allan played a very important role in the creation and implementation of the Mars rover - he was the guy that bascially came up with every possible scenario where things could go wrong. Needless to say he was popular amoung the other engineers, but assured us he had a winning personality which more than made up for it! Have a listen: Breakfast With Spanky - Russel Norman - Green Party co-leader
November 15, 2009 12:56 PM PST
Russel Norman joined us on the show this morning to give his opinion on whether Hone should get the boot from the Maori Party. In some ways they’re not too different- the Greens and Hone - both activists in their own rights, so we picked Russel brain. Also we ask why food prices are on the increase and what that means for us; the average New Zealander. Although we at BWS secretly know there’s absolutely nothing average about our listeners. Breakfast With Spanky - Zac & Mandy from Under the Red Verandah
November 11, 2009 02:29 PM PST
Under the Red Verandah is most definitely our cafe of choice here at BWS, and they’re open tomorrow! I guess that doesn’t sound like anything different but take into consideration it’s a public holiday and the fact the staff will be taking over with all proceeds going to them. Now, get your ass down there for some legendary mushrooms on toast or delicious eggs benedict. Listen to what else is going down: Breakfast With Spanky - Sam from Shapeshifter
November 11, 2009 02:26 PM PST
Oh yeah, Shapeshifter are playing this weekend at the town hall!! Nice one, we had a chat with Sam from the band this morning to find out more about their album which is being released tomorrow. Where are these guys headed exactly? What does the new record sound like? Will wickedness really increase? And more… Next Page |
